Terriers Food Drive a Resounding Success

The U18 Mississauga Terriers, spearheaded by Eli Chou and Michael Ayerst, put into motion the idea to start a food drive to help meet the post-holiday need that is most often overlooked in the community. The Food Drive took place on Monday, January 13th at Erin Mills Arena, which is Terriers Home Night at the rink. Many of the U18 Terriers came out to volunteer and collect food and monetary donations from families, including a substantial amount of donations from visiting teams. By all accounts, the Food Drive was a resounding success! In total, the U18’s collected in the neighbourhood of 1850 food items and a very respectable $765 in monetary donations. Congratulations to Eli and Michael for their efforts and leadership, and to the rest of the team for their support. It is a testament to the character of the individuals involved and a reminder that sports aren’t just about what happens in games and practices, it’s about the lessons they teach and the opportunities they provide for personal growth and character building.

The team’s next project is to deliver the food to the Mississauga Food bank on February 12th, and to top it off, the entire team is volunteering that evening to help sort and pack food donations for those who are struggling in their community. It goes without saying that the entire Terrier organization is proud of their efforts. This, along with the other many acts of charity that Terrier teams contribute to over the course of the season, are what make us all proud to call ourselves TERRIERS!
