The U16 Terriers braved the stormy Buffalo weather to capture the Gene Harrington Outdoor Classic Championship this past weekend. After rolling to a 2 and 1 record in the 3-game round robin, including a tough loss at Riverworks outdoor rink on Friday afternoon, the team regrouped and played one of their most complete games to beat a very strong Nepean team in the semi-finals. The Terriers scored the game’s only goal with 23 seconds left on the clock and held on to punch their ticket to the final. Sunday’s final was held at the main rink at Niagara University and the team used their skill and speed to build a strong 3-0 lead after the first 2 periods. Richmond Hill battled back to make it an exciting finish, scoring two goals in the third to make it a 3-2 game, but that’s as close as they would come. The boys held on for their first tournament win of the year. Congratulations to the team, its coaching staff and the parents who braved the elements to make it a successful trip south of the border.
